-Drink plenty of water leading up to your Big Day. Healthy, radiant skin starts at the cellular level.
-Wax the day prior to your spray tan and remember NOT TO schedule any facials or oil messages after your custom spray tan session.
-Soak in a warm bath to loosen dead skin cells prior to exfoliating. Use an exfoliating mitt to ensure thorough removal of dead skin cells.
Optima Sun Lab recommends all brides book a trail consultation and spray tan session prior to there Wedding. This will allow you, as the bride, to see what your tan will look like on day one, day two, day three. Your custom color + body contouring perscriptive’s will be kept on file. Before + Aftercare
1 PREPARE CLEANSE + EXFOLIATE
Before your tanning session, make sure you shower and exfoliate. Do not use oil-based exfoliators as they leave a residue that blocks the tanning process. Exfoliating well is a key component to the perfect sunless tan. This removes dead skin cells which allows the tan to fade more evenly + promotes a longer lasting, vibrant sunless tan.
Make sure your body is free of make-up, moisturizer, and perfume. Shave or Wax at least 1 day prior to your sunless tanning session. We recommend that clients wear lingerie, underclothes or a swimsuit. Female clients over the age of 18 may choose to tan topless or in the nude. Male clients are required to wear bottoms. Clients under 18 must have a parental consent form and must wear a full swimsuit. Be assured that we are professionals and will make every effort to accommodate your needs and make you as comfortable as possible with whatever you choose to wear.
On the day of your treatment wear dark, loose fitting clothing. Whenever possible wear flip flops or open-toed sandals. Plan your day ahead: Avoid swimming, bathing, and heavy exercise for at least 8-12 hours to ensure the best results.
2 AFTERCARE ENHANCE + REJUVENATE
For optimal results wait at least 8-12 hours to shower or sweat. Daily moisturizing is key to extending your tan, at least twice a day. We recommend using our moisturizing sunless extender with enhancing bronzers. You will see a noticeable difference in how vibrant your tan looks + how much longer it last. Scrubbing, exfoliating, shaving, and waxing will shorten the life of your tan. Only exfoliate before a tanning session or to help remove remnants of an old tan. Indulge in a Hydrating Shimmer Treatment or Anti-Aging Treatment after or in between tanning sessions. These products were specifically designed to enhance your sunless tanning experience + keep your skin nourished and healthy. Sunless products do not contain sunscreen. An overall sun protection program is needed. Like any beauty routine, proper preparation, skin care, and upkeep are required to make the most of your Optima Sun Lab tan.

Your Sunless Tanning Experience
The Process
Relax while our sunless tanning specialist guides you through your sunless tanning treatment. When we arrive at your location you will have a consultation with one of our spray tan technicians to help you decide exactly what color you are hoping to achieve; from a healthy glow, to a light, medium, or dark tan. Then, assessing your natural skin color your technician will tell you if your goal is realistic or make a recommendation.
Next a pop-up tent with an extractor fan will be set-up, where during the treatment, the client will stand inside while the technician applies the bronzer. Clients will turn on queue until we have covered your entire desire spray areas. It takes less than 5 minutes to complete a treatment session, you will feel a cool misting sensation when the solution is being applied.
There is no need to be anxious about closing your eyes and holding your breath; when the time comes to spray your face the technician will tell you when to close your eyes and take breath. We will do everything possible to make the experience comfortable for you.
After you dry for a couple of minutes you will be ready to put your clothes back on. For best results we recommend wearing loose, dark clothing.
The entire process can be complete in as little 20 minutes and you will have a beautiful Optima Sun Lab tan in the privacy of your own space.

Following a good skin care regimen before and after sunless tanning will help your sunless tan last longer. Exfoliating prior to a sunless tanning application and keeping skin moisturized afterwards are essential.

Moisture is critical to good skin health because it helps maintain a good skin barrier and creates a flexible, pliable skin that is soft to touch. Moist skin will tan better and more evenly than dry skin.

No matter how much you love it, the sun does not love you back. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, 90 percent of all premature aging and skin cancers are caused by sun exposure. Wearing an SPF 15 or higher every day is the single best skincare product you can use on your skin. SPF is proven to be the most effective way to fight aging.
TANNING BEDS ARE NOT HEALTHY
The tanning industry has mounted an aggressive campaign aimed at minimizing the dangers of tanning beds—maintaining that indoor tanning is actually healthy. This is simply not true. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, tanning is caused by the brown pigment melanin. Upon sun exposure, it is produced and distributed in the top layers of the skin. This pigment minimally protects the skin against further UV damage. But, the important point is that UV- induced DNA damage must have happened to create the tan in the first place. In fact, a recent study directly linked tanning device use to basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, the most common skin cancers.
PROTECT YOURSELF
Now that you're sufficiently warned, here's what you can do to protect yourself. Proper sun protection on a daily basis is vital in the fight against aging and skin cancer. Use an SPF 15 or higher year-round. To maintain its protection level, sunscreen must be reapplied every two hours regardless of its SPF. In addition to wearing an SPF, you should practice other sun-safe behavior, like seeking shade between 10 AM and 4 PM and covering up with clothing, including UV- blocking sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
FAQ’s
Q: Why is keeping skin moisturized essential to maintaining great sunless results?
A: It is important to keep skin moisturized after sunless tanning as dry, flaky skin will slough off faster and color will fade sooner. Sunless tan-extending products with a light self-tanning bronzers help hydrate skin and maintain even, natural-looking color longer.
Q: Will the solution from a spray tanning application come off on my clothes?
A: If you are using a spray solution with a cosmetic tint, some of the bronze color may rub off on clothing or bed sheets. This is most likely to happen when you get dressed immediately after tanning. To minimize the chance of the tint transferring to clothing, we recommend that you wear loose-fitting, darker clothes after your spray session. The cosmetic tint is water-soluble. Therefore, in most cases, the color will come out of clothing in the wash.
Q: Why does my face fade faster?
A: Facial skin is thinner than the skin found on the abdomen, legs, and arms. In addition, the face is exposed to the environment continually and requires anti-aging products, potions, and make-up to protect the skin. While these products “save face,” due to their exfoliating nature they break down the tan more quickly. We recommend our Glow on the Go! touch-up spray to keep your face looking bronzed & vibrant.
Q: Do I need to wear sunscreen?
A: Absolutely! Despite the darkening of the skin, an individual is just as susceptible to the harmful rays of outdoor and indoor tanning. An overall sun protection program is still necessary.
Q: Can you use tanning beds or tan outdoors in conjunction with sunless tanning?
A: Absolutely! Although repeated exposure to ultraviolet light is deemed to cause premature aging and cancers of the skin, you can still do both. Drying your skin in the sun or by alternative UV sources can reduce the longevity of your sunless tan.
Q: How long will my sunless tan last? A: With proper preparation and daily moisturizing, your tan will last approximately 5-10 days, and possibly longer. Those who shower more than once daily will fade more quickly than clients whose routine includes one daily shower and sunless moisturizer. A sunless tan fades just like a tan from the sun. As you slough off dead skin cells, so goes your tan. Proper skin hydration is the key to maximum longevity. Optima Sun Lab offers a complete line of enhancement products especially designed to maximize your sunless tan. Used as directed, our products can extend your color and keep it smooth and even for up to two weeks.
Q: Is sunless spray tanning safe?
A: Yes, The FDA approved active ingredient, dihydroxyacetone (DHA), is derived from raw sugar cane and reacts with the proteins in the outermost layer of your skin to produce a golden brown color. DHA has been used safely over the years in numerous sunless tanning products. We use a premium quality product manufactured with the most advanced method available.
Q: Can I spray tan if I am pregnant? A: There are no known side effects from the application of DHA (The active ingredient in spray tanning solution). Although our solution is all-natural and approved by the FDA, as a precaution, if you are pregnant you should always consult with your physician or other qualified healthcare provider before receiving our service.
Q: What if I think my hands and feet look to pale?
A: We usually prefer to go a little lighter on the hands and feet. These areas look better with a lighter touch as the skin absorbs self tanner differently than the rest of your body. Over saturation of these areas can result in discoloration. For this reason our technicians prefer to spray your hands and feet a little lighter than the rest of your body.
Q: Why do some sunless tans start to become patchy when they tan starts to fade?
A: As mentioned before, the part of the skin that achieves the tan appearance is the top layer of skin cells. As the tan fades and your skin goes through its natural exfoliation process, dead skin cells shed. Not every cell turns over at the same rate. You may have some “tanned” cells that remain or last longer while others fade away. The result of this is the appearance of dark spots that resemble freckles. This doesn’t mean you received a bad tan or bad solution. Your tan will eventually fade all the way and there are several things you can do. First, you can prep your skin by assisting the exfoliation process using a scrub or gloves before going for a re-spray. This will blend your fading tan and even it out. Second, you can leave your skin alone and allowing the natural exfoliation process of the skin to occur. Eventually the tan will fade all the way. Third, you can assist the exfoliation process by soaking in a warm bath or using exfoliating gloves or a scrub to remove the remainder of your tan. Remember that it is a sunless tan and like all beauty routines, maintenance is involved.
Q: Why is a spray tan application superior to misting booths or applying by hand?
A: Our handheld spray gun is a precision instrument that allows for a smooth, flawless application. Special care can be taken to avoid over application on problem areas such as knees, elbows, hands and feet that tend to absorb more color. While all methods of sunless tanning require positioning and re-positioning to evenly apply solution, mist-on booths are pre-set to a timer and volume of spray that does not adjust for the individual.
Hand application often results in streaky coloration and stained hands depending on the individual's ability to properly apply the product. Uneven coloration is common with self-tanners that are rubbed in as opposed to gently settling on the skin. Even the popular aerosol cans are difficult for the individual to apply evenly, and most contain VOCs which hang in the air to be inhaled during application.

It is our policy to give each client a "second chance" the first time they cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours notice.
